4 pieces of 3/4 inch birch plywood as follows:
one 25 x 35 inches
two 24 x 28 inches
one 36 x 76
and one piano hinge 28 inches long.
I came up with this design but I had no idea if it would work. I could now express it to anyone easily, with drawings, but... what if it would just fall down? So I made a model to scale. Dividing by 4 and cannibalizing a couple prioity mail envelopes I made a model. You can make one if you like, here are the drawings you could print out- the long piece is 19 inches long.
You need one piece that is 6.25 inches by 8.75 inches, then two legs and a top and some scotch tape for a hinge..

and here is the model- the grey piece of support is shown on top of the tabletop so you can see it. It belongs under the tabletop.

So- it worked on the model. Now it was time for them to show up with virgin wood and make it in real life.
Did I mention that by now I was really into Trading Spaces and While You Were Out- TV shows where they totally remodel a room in 2 days? Ha. HAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA This was suppose to take 2 weeks. I gave it 2 months. That was 11 months ago.
OK OK so they built my table...

and it was perfect.
Note- it is intentionally not symmetrical. I went to great effort to remove it's symmetry. Frank Lloyd Wright said something like "Symmetry annoys the eyes."

But the piece of wood they brought for the tabletop was not pretty, so I told them not to cut it and I am using what is left of my beautiful old tabletop until we can find a nice one.
This old tabletop is also 4 inches short... and the legs need ot be eurothaned and shaped...
ah well....
